-sponsored the bill with todd akin which narrowed the definition of rape. i bet joe biden is going to pick a couple of things from the quiver to go at ryan with one is the medicare issue, appealing to seniors and the other is going to be with women. >> sure. you saw that yesterday, i think abortion was the story of the day. and i think they're going to carry that on today. i think what you're going to see mini mitt, what's described to me by the romney campaign, that's his nickname, mini mitt. you'll see him talk about the positions, not his positions before he was picked as the nominee, but mitt's position all night. that's the focus. you're not going to see a conversation paul ryan. >> phil, david says, conditions are told, this is veep candidates talk up your running mate, zing your opponent but avoid letting your career or policy ideas barack obama become the focus on the biggest life of the political life it's not about you. that said, when ryan was picked, those who didn't agree with pick said this guy has years of a congressional record, congressional approval rating is in the basement. ther

last night, one of the very first things that joe biden did when they turned toward the economy was raise the auto bailout. one out of eight jobs in ohio is tied to the auto industry, of the 88 counties in ohio, 82 have automotive related industries in those counties. that's wildly popular in ohio. the obama campaign is making the case and i think they've got the better of the argument that the governor opposed, governor romney opposed the auto bailout and that's i think an economics jobs issue that the obama people are going to continue to push. >> patrick, a good chunk of governor romney's bounce came from this rise in republican enthusiasm after the debate. if the president is able to bounce back at the next one and move the needle on democratic enthusiasm, what does that do to the romney lead? >> i think romney needs to look at this now and look at the battleground states that are the must-wins, florida and ohio, he's so centralized in boston, i would send 100 people to florida, 100 people to ohio and just start gubernatorial races for the time being because that's how you g
did an excellent job. at times it seemed like ryan was debating two people, the moderator and that joe biden. ryan still kept his cool and did a great job. biden is the reincarnation of harold stasstzen. his incessant interrupting, smirks, giggles and laughing at ryan, he was trying to sucker right into losing his temper, but ryan did not fall for that. an embarrassing display of buffoonery. i am interested to see what mr. obama's supporters will say today, their tone. i think they will be running scared. host: this morning we are using span2012 if you would like to make a comment on twitter about last night's debate. from "the huffington post" -- next call comes from canada in philadelphia on our support president obama line. caller: how are you? host: good. turn down your tv and go ahead. i will put you on hold and we will come back to you. we will go to jerry in missouri on our support mitt romney line. caller: how are you? host: good. caller: i would like to voice my concerns for the seniors we know who are losing their health care because of obamacare. my father is a korean vetera
security number and my attm code and my d.o.b. if you don't mind. "morning joe" starts right now. >>> i had a different reaction to that first debate than a lot of people did. i mean, i thought -- i thought, wow, here's old moderate mitt. where you been, boy? i missed you all these last two years. now, the problem with this deal is the deal was made by severe conservative men. that was how he described himself for two whole years until three or four days before the debate. they got together and said hey, man, this ship is sinking faster than the titanic. so just show up with a sunny face and say, i didn't say all that stuff i said the last two years. are you going to believe me or your lying eyes here. come on. what are you doing? if i'd been the president, i might have said well, hate to get in the way of this. i miss you. >> oh, boy. >> vegas brings it out. >> yes, it does. >> i don't think it was vegas. good morning, everyone. welcome to "morning joe." it's wednesday, october 10th. with us on set we have msnbc contributor mike bark kel and chairman of deutsch incorporated donny deutsch,

, and then to get some idea of how they might rule on this. portsmouth, rhode island, democratic caller. joe, go ahead. caller: i went through the court cases, the supreme court cases, brown vs. the board of education, etc. i want to make a personal comment. i took the s.a.t.'s with a black friend of mine from massachusetts, a basketball player who went on to play for jacksonville in the n.c.a.a. tournament. we both moaned and groaned over the s.a.t.'s. i think it was discrimination against both of us because we were from a poor neighborhood and never got the opportunity. a lot of the problem is the scholastic aptitude testing to get into college, which is discriminating both against poor white and black men, and women also. also, i think you cannot disregard women from discrimination in the past and what blacks went through in this country. i took a broader brush and took every minority -- they would take asians and everything into consideration, and this left the black man out of the picture to a large extent. i also feel that they should take more white men from neighborhoods that are disadva
probably the biggest hire in the campaign. joe biden in august. and i remember when i learned that he picked joe biden. i was like really, joe biden. this is not -- this is a not-so -- guy. 30 years in the senate. he's almost seemed like everyone we were campaigning against. let me tell you that joe biden when he came in. i couldn't have liked him more. he was everything that you would think. he was no drama. the most unassuming interest to the campaign that we could have had for a guy who had the senate trappings. you almost didn't notice he came in. respect everyone. i think that's obvious, and there isn't a more bottom up kind of go than joe biden. he integrated so well in to the campaign. he was part of us, you heard how, you know, there were divisions within the mccain twain between mccain camp and the palin camp. we didn't have a camp. right, you could see the value of that kind of chemistry him coming inspect. had he came in, he actually -- he wanted to meet the staff. and he said you could tell how excited he was. he said, you know, -- you know, you guys are the ones that kick
. >> gretchen: he doesn't have the experience joe biden has. he's been on capitol hill and been in debate situations before. you think that nerves can play into this at all or is ryan used to be on center stage. >> ryan is well used to it. >> steve: he's a whiz kid. >> he is. this is a unique situation. you have the architect of the program on defending it. >> brian: the other thing is, if paul ryan . joe biden hasn't done an interview in five months and six days to prepare. >> not to prepare. they wanted him off of the road for six days. >> brian: he's not -- not been on for months. >> my book the black helicopters came out yesterday. we know that obama is raising taxes in his second term if he has it. the book said the un is going to impose a new form of taxation and do a income tax for billionaires and do away financial transaction tax that said every time you buy a stock or bond or currency you may a robin hood. tax on cigarettes and off shore oil drill tax on u.s. airline that is land in europe and all be done by treaty which means the president's signature. the senate's consent and
american people, "joe six-pack", hockey moms across the nation. we need to band together. >> talk about the maverick john mccain. i love him. he has been a maverick on some issues. he is not a maverick on things that matter to people's lives. martha: this is big news this morning. the u.s. military is now setting up camp in jordan to help with humanitarian crisis that is spilling in from syria. the task force says it is concerned with helping the country deal with the nearly 18,000 refugees who have come across that border. the obama administration declined to offer military support to rebels in syria fighting government forces there. so far more than 30,000 people, 30,000 people have been killed in that uprising since march in syria. bill: for the first time in nearly a month mitt romney now leading president obama in scott rasmussen's swing state survey, 49-47%. that poll tracks 11 key battleground states that the president won four years ago but now they're considered too close to call. ed rollins, fox news contributor, served as national direct for president ronald reagan's re-elect
obama had a disasterous performance last week. so now there is added pressure on joe biden to actually super perform to try to make up some ground, the ground that obama lost since last week. >> bill: he can't possibly supper perform. >> you've got two things going on. it's east got a generational difference between biden who is 69 and the young paul ryan who is 42. the other thing is on the issue, you'll have a striking difference because biden is saddled with defending an economic record that failed. he's going up against the nation's top budget guy. >> bill: he's not going to say, obviously, the president will say it's succeeding. this is what the debate is. here is why i don't think it matters and then you can reply. people don't vote for vice president. this is all about romney and obama. this is what it is. biden is a known quantity. he's a very devoted liberal man. he's not going to go off the talking points. even though he once in a while he'll ad lib and get in trouble, here they're basically hitting him on the head right now. do not go off the talking points. do not say anyth
it with joe biden! >> bill: we were he were going to do warren and brown, we'll put that off for next week 'cause i didn't want to interrupt miller describing the vice president and his strengths and weaknesses, although the strengths kind of eluded me in that monologue. did i miss it? >> like i said, billy, you're often tough on the defenders on this show and you're more -- you give more room to the other people. i made my point the best i could. i'm sorry if you find it lacking. >> bill: no, no, no. not me, miller. because i don't want you to direct your ire at me. nothing lacking. >> listen, they ought to replace elizabeth warren up there with somebody competent in the boston area like bobby valentine. , do you think voters will remember less the substance and more the antics of joe biden interrupting 82 times and smirking through discussions what is quite frankly very serious and somber matters? >> frankly, i live in the south. we really don't like that kind of i am polite behavior, i don't think it went over well at least in the community i live in. beyond that, i'm not surprised that joe biden did what he did. after all, he and president cannot live on their accomplishments. at this point in the campaign at least in my experience in my campaign, i would be out there selling what i did. i would be showing how my promises have been fulfilled. we have broken promises, we have failed policies. frankly you can't live on that, what do you is get loud ear and louder. then we have paul ryan who did a good job on showing what they have as a plan. >> gregg: let me ask you about that. biden used the word fact more than 30 times during the debate. ryan used it once. vice president's facts seem in shorts supply. you can check out the editorial in "new york post." he voted against the two wars.
